The owner of the hotel kindly drove me back to Amman the next day and I was there by mid-morning so spent the rest of the day exploring. I had initially not liked the place much, but changed my mind. I was, of course, staying in the dodgy part of town. I did the Lonely Planet walking tour and wandered through really interesting fruit and vegetable markets full of fabulous piles of dates and dried fruit and nuts and all the seasonal fruits and up one of the many hills to the Citadel, where there was (for me) a fascinating archeological museum with some of the oldest sculptures found, made from plaster and clay.
